In modern buildings, building management systems (BMS) increasingly assume the task of coordinating and optimising building equipment functions. They control equipment across sections. This requires system components which – on the basis of a shared interface – span the diverse functions of the sections.
A widespread BMS is the KNX system. It is an internationally standardised bus system (ISO/IEC 14543) for building automation with an open interface (see also www.knx.de). Many building equipment manufacturers of all areas offer components equipped with this interface (usually as an option).
Paramount objectives of building management are
increased convenience, and
energy savings.
However,
facilitating maintenance procedures and
documenting technical procedures
are also important aspects of building management implementation.
