Custom Lighting Solutions at Its Best

TRILUX and Monolicht in Dialogue

When it comes to individual lighting solutions, companies are truly in the right place with us – twice over. In addition to our manufactory in Arnsberg, Germany, the Swiss company Monolicht is also part of the TRILUX Group. What sets these two apart and brings them together? We asked Sebastian Deutenberg, Head of TRILUX Architectural, and Michael Sigg, Managing Director of Monolicht.

How do TRILUX Manufaktur and Monolicht differ and where do they complement each other?

Sebastian Deutenberg (SD): The highest maxim at TRILUX is that companies in the Group support and complement each other in the best possible way. If the request for a special solution comes from the market, we implement it with the partner who can do it best.

Michael Sigg (MS): It can all be very flexible. In practice, we have already passed the ball very well in various projects, for example through a combination of preliminary work and the completion of luminaires. In terms of communication, we are open in all directions and share know-how and best-practice experience.

What are the classic customer requirements for a special luminaire?

SD: The spectrum ranges from the adaptation of a series luminaire to a completely new development. The luminaires are often designed to be self-effacing. Their task is to optimally support and showcase the architecture through their lighting quality and effect.

MS: Sometimes there is also a desire for light art or light sculptures. In these cases, we work closely with customers and partners to translate visions into lighting reality.

Do you have any specific examples?

SD: Absolutely. Two exciting projects from the past two years include the light sculpture for the DFB Academy headquarters and a custom-made lighting solution for a private clinic. A typical project with a high degree of customization was the development of a specialized floor lamp for a private acute care clinic. The clinic's offerings include light as an established therapeutic tool, with treatments that even involve sleep deprivation and recalibration of the circadian rhythm. For this purpose, TRILUX has developed a special free-standing luminaire that can be used in the fields of psychodynamic psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatics. The special feature of the solution is the high light intensity of the luminaire, which enables effective light therapy, as well as the option of indirect lighting and customizable lighting control for a pleasant atmosphere. The integration of LiveLink wireless networking and cloud integration also makes it easy to control and monitor the lighting.

MS: A typical project with a medium degree of customization is the Matthysweg retirement home in Zurich. Based on the Luna textile luminaire, we adapted the design and lighting technology to various individual areas of use according to the customer's wishes.

Others also offer special solutions. What do we do better than the competition?

MS: One of our particular strengths is our holistic approach with an extremely broad and adaptable product and service portfolio and the close involvement of the customer. This enables us to handle even extensive projects from A to Z and guarantee optimum results. And we do so quickly and flexibly.

SD: Our customized services are also currently in high demand on the market. This ranges from the search for an individual financing concept to monitoring services for monitoring lighting via the cloud. Many are also looking for a full-service partner for holistic project management from a single source, from the initial inquiry through to completion.

Are there other trends - where will the journey take us in the future?

MS: In addition to technological demands, the focus is increasingly on materials and design. Our strength: we can meet customer needs on all three levels. What sets us apart from the competition is our technological excellence.

SD: There is also often a demand for a clear and distinctive design language. Many project decision-makers currently favor lighting designs with sharp-edged contours—a requirement we fulfill exceptionally well with custom aluminum light channels in a wide range of shapes and colors.

If you had one wish, which project would you be most excited to take on?

MS: For me, any lighting challenge is exciting. The NEOM project in Saudi Arabia, for example, would be very appealing: a futuristic mega-city for nine million inhabitants that is currently being built in the desert.

SD: For me, too, the maxim is: the main thing is challenging! At the top of my wish list, for example, is the refurbishment of the Federal Chancellery in Berlin. With numerous special solutions from us, of course.

Thank you very much for the interview!
