Due to current occasion, many cities and municipalities are considering reducing the energy consumption of their often outdated municipal outdoor lighting. Measures ranging from shortened nighttime lighting times to complete shutdown are under discussion. Both save energy, but to the detriment of the safety and well-being of citizens. There is a smart alternative: switching to LED technology and lighting management can achieve significantly higher energy savings without compromising safety or comfort. In addition, smart refurbishment opens up new potential, for example in control and monitoring as well as for IoT applications.
Switching to an LED system with lighting management reduces energy costs by up to 70 percent compared to an unregulated conventional solution.
Lighting management systems help minimize nighttime light pollution for insects, birds, mammals, and plants, for example, by dimming or using insect-friendly light spectra.
Cloud-based monitoring of each light point allows maintenance cycles to be adapted to real needs. Predictive maintenance increases safety and reduces maintenance costs by up to 40 percent.
CO2 Emissions are falling in parallel with reduced energy consumption. Energy-efficient lighting thus makes an important contribution to achieving the EU's 2030 climate targets.
For accompanying light, the luminaires are networked and combined with presence detectors. If a person enters the detection range of one sensor, the two neighboring luminaires are also activated automatically. If the person continues to move, he or she is accompanied through the night by a "light corridor". This ensures maximum safety with minimum energy consumption.
A lighting management system with dimmable RGB LED luminaires allows the light intensity and light color of each light point to be precisely regulated. Perfect for atmospherically attractive city marketing, for example dynamic colored event lighting during the city festival.
Sensors - such as presence detectors or brightness sensors - make it easy to adapt the lighting to the real conditions on site. A clever alternative to sensor systems that operate according to the "all-or-nothing principle" is "volume-based" lighting control: sensor systems determine the average number of vehicles or passers-by in a specific time window and automatically adjust the lighting level to the statistical traffic volume.
Our smart outdoor luminaires not only provide perfect, energy-efficient light - they transform every city into a smart city. Standardized interfaces can be used to integrate non-lighting IoT components into the network at a later date - for example, wireless LAN modules, cameras or environmental sensors. This flexibility makes the outdoor luminaires maximally future-proof.
