KLG Europe has been a renowned name in the transport industry for over 100 years. Headquartered in Duizel (NL), the company operates worldwide as a specialist in transport and storage, with seventeen locations across the Netherlands. Their latest site in Eersel comprises four buildings, a spacious car park, and a 10,000 square metre cross-docking area for loading and unloading goods. The entire site - both the interior and exterior has been equipped with high-quality, sustainable lighting from TRILUX.
"It was a very dynamic and challenging project that differed significantly from typical logistics applications in terms of requirements and conditions," explains Adriaan Stal from TRILUX Benelux, who was responsible for the project’s lighting design.
The new facility includes offices, a garage with space for ten lorries, a workshop, a car wash, a driver waiting area, and long-term parking areas for lorries. "Unlike traditional warehouses, cross-docking involves transferring freight directly from one lorry to another, without temporary storage in racks. This fast-paced logistics model requires high-quality lighting to ensure safety and efficiency, due to the close interaction between vehicles and people," summarises Adriaan Stal. Our Jovie luminaires, installed in multiple configurations across the site, provide ideal lighting conditions to support this dynamic environment.
Initially, KLG considered high lighting columns and illuminance levels to cover all areas, including the rear areas of the park. However, a more eco-friendly and cost-effective solution was chosen after extensive calculations and consultations. Lower mast and illuminance levels versions of our Jovie luminaires were strategically installed across the site to ensure that unused areas remain unlit at night. Jovie is also used in a twin configuration – allowing greater coverage per mast and saving considerable costs. For the interior, sensors and a lighting management system further optimise energy consumption, cutting operational costs and CO2 emissions.
Jovie luminaires were also installed on the building façade - but at around eight metres due to the low hall height, i.e. around four metres lower than the typical installation. "In such cases, selecting the right beam angle is crucial to prevent glare for drivers," explains Adriaan Stal. Flexibility was also required when lighting the covered open area in front of the workshop. The initially planned E-Line Next continuous-row system (IP64) had to be adapted due to an unplanned skylight that was not reflected in the construction plans. Thanks to the modular flexibility of TRILUX solutions, the adjustment was made seamlessly.
In addition to the covered outdoor areas, the E-Line Next continuous-row system (IP64) is also used in the warehouse and workshop. For the ‘lorry wash’, where high pressure water and temperatures are used, Aragon Fit moisture-proof luminaires were installed to ensure durability and performance in demanding conditions. "As part of the project, we were able to fully utilise our lighting expertise and the breadth of our portfolio," says Adriaan Stal.
The result speaks for itself: an innovative and future-proof KLG logistics hub with state-of-the-art, energy-efficient LED lighting for the interior and exterior.
