Since the 1990s, electronic control gear units (ECG) have progressively replaced magnetic control gear. They generate an operating frequency from 30 kHz to 90 kHz and more. This achieves superior luminous efficacy in lamps with reduced internal control gear losses and thus fulfills the criteria for EEI classification A2. Their power consumption (system performance) is reduced by ca. 25% compared to CCG switching. Compensation condensers are not required in combination with ECG (see below).
