The international standard ISO 8995-1 "Lighting of work places – Part 1: Indoor" (2002 edition with editorial corrections in 2005) also examines lighting of indoor work places. It was created by the international lighting commission (CIE) as CIE standard S 008/E in English language and provided to the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) as a draft for an ISO standard. The high degree of approval of 75% of ISO countries can also be explained by the fact that, in contrast to EN standards, there is no transfer obligation for ISO standards as national standards.
It would have been a significant progress for the international harmonisation of lighting Requirements in indoor work places if CIE and ISO had adopted the European standard EN 12464-1, which was edited at the same time as the international ISO standard.
